    • MD1 / MG1 & Newer ECU Solutions
Support for modern Bosch ECU platforms found on many newer petrol and diesel vehicles.

    • All Makes & Models Support
We work on a wide range of vehicles beyond BMW, Ford and VAG, with solutions tailored to the specific platform.

  • When carried out correctly, ECU calibration is a safe and well-established process.

At Helix Performance Solutions, we take a platform-led approach, meaning every vehicle is assessed individually before any work is carried out. This includes a full diagnostics and health check to ensure the vehicle is operating as it should.

We use genuine, industry-recognised tools and apply the correct method for the vehicle, whether that is OBD, bench or an unlock-based process on newer ECUs.

    Our calibration approach focuses on:

    • safe operating limits

    • smooth, usable power delivery

    • maintaining drivability and reliability

We do not take a one-size-fits-all approach, and we do not push vehicles beyond what is considered safe for the platform.

As with any mechanical system, the condition of the vehicle plays an important role. A well-maintained vehicle will always respond better to calibration than one with existing faults.

  • No — when carried out correctly, remapping will not damage your engine.

At Helix Performance Solutions, we focus on safe, well-balanced calibration rather than pushing vehicles beyond their limits. Every vehicle is checked before any work is carried out, including diagnostics and live data, to ensure it is in suitable condition.

    Our approach is based on:

    • staying within safe operating limits

    • maintaining reliability and drivability

    • using the correct method for the ECU and platform

We do not apply generic or aggressive files, and we do not take a one-size-fits-all approach.

It’s important to understand that remapping does not fix underlying issues. If a vehicle already has faults or is not properly maintained, those issues should be addressed first.

When the vehicle is healthy and the calibration is carried out properly, remapping is a safe and widely used way to improve performance and drivability.

  • We offer both mobile and workshop-based services, depending on the vehicle and the type of work required.

For many vehicles, we can carry out ECU and TCU calibration at your location using our mobile service, covering Oswestry and the surrounding areas.

However, some vehicles — particularly newer platforms or those requiring bench access or unlock procedures — may need to be worked on in a more controlled environment.

When you enquire, we will confirm:

    • whether your vehicle is suitable for mobile service

    • the correct method (OBD, bench or unlock)

    • the best option for your specific setup

Our goal is always to use the right method for the vehicle, not just the most convenient one.

  • Will a dealer update or recall overwrite my remap?

Yes — in some cases, a dealer software update or recall can overwrite a calibration.

Manufacturer updates, including emissions-related recalls (often referred to as “dieselgate” updates), may reset the ECU back to standard software.

If this happens, your vehicle may lose the calibration and return to stock.

    We recommend:

    • informing the dealer that the vehicle has been modified

    • checking with us before any software updates are carried out

If your vehicle is returned to stock due to an update, we can usually reapply the calibration, at a cost dew to the update not being compatible wit the old calibration

  • No — we use trusted, proven calibration solutions selected based on the vehicle and platform.

We do not use random or unknown files. Every calibration is chosen to suit the specific vehicle, platform and intended use. Having built our reputation since 2020, we know that trust and consistency come from doing the job properly — not from cutting corners with cheap, unproven files.

  • we use starlink satellite internet so can connect anywhere un the us as long as we have a clear view of the sky, If we are doing an OBD solution we will need 240v power, If its a bench read we have onboard power for this.

  • Most ECU calibrations can be completed within 1–2 hours, depending on the vehicle and method required.

The total time can vary based on:

    • ECU type and platform

    • access method (OBD, bench or unlock)

    • read/write time on newer vehicles

    • any diagnostics or checks required beforehand

For straightforward OBD-based vehicles, the process is usually completed within a hour.

For more advanced platforms — such as some MD1 / MG1 ECUs — additional time may be required, especially if an unlock process or ECU removal is involved.

We will always confirm expected timeframes before booking so you know exactly what to expect.

  • Power and torque gains vary depending on the vehicle, engine and platform.

As a general guide, most vehicles see noticeable improvements in:

    • power output

    • torque delivery

    • throttle response

    • overall drivability

For many turbocharged vehicles, gains of 20–30% are common on a Stage 1 calibration, but this is always dependent on the specific engine and condition of the vehicle.

We focus on delivering usable, real-world performance, not just headline figures. That means smoother power delivery, stronger mid-range pull and a more responsive driving experience.

When you enquire, we can provide vehicle-specific figures based on your exact make, model and engine.

  • Yes — we work on a wide range of vehicles across many different manufacturers.

While BMW, Ford and VAG Group vehicles are some of the most common we see, we regularly provide ECU and TCU calibration for many other makes and models, including Japanese, French and other European vehicles.

Each vehicle is assessed individually to confirm:

    • ECU type and platform

    • compatibility

    • correct calibration method (OBD, bench or unlock if required)

Not all vehicles are supported in the same way, especially on newer platforms, so we always confirm this before booking.

  • We do not recommend the removal or deactivation of emissions control systems on road-going vehicles. Any off-road or motorsport-only software solutions are discussed on a case-by-case basis, and it is the vehicle owner’s responsibility to ensure the vehicle is used in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. • Yes — in most cases, the vehicle can be returned back to its original software.

Before any calibration is carried out, we take a full backup of the original ECU file where possible. This allows the vehicle to be restored to stock if required at a later date.

Returning a vehicle to stock may be useful for:

    • selling the vehicle

    • returning it to standard condition

    • specific servicing or dealership requirements

The exact process can vary depending on the ECU and platform, particularly on newer vehicles, but we will always advise the available options for your specific vehicle.

  • In some cases, vehicle modifications such as ECU or TCU calibration can affect a manufacturer warranty.

    This can vary depending on:

    • the manufacturer

    • the type of warranty

    • how the vehicle is inspected

Some manufacturers may be able to detect that the vehicle software has been modified, even if it has been returned to stock.

We always recommend checking with your warranty provider or dealer if this is a concern before proceeding.

Our role is to provide safe, well-informed calibration, but warranty decisions are ultimately made by the manufacturer or provider.

In a lot of cases you just lose warranty on the engine not the whole car
